FC Edmonton got off to yet another poor start to a match, and the Eddies dug themselves a hole they couldn’t find a way out of.

But Saturday’s game felt different than any other home-season-ender. We don’t know what the future holds. Heck, we don’t know in what league FC Edmonton will play in 2018, or if the team will play at all. Instead of “see you next year,” the handshakes with the broadcast crew and the stadium regulars had a feel of “we’ll see you… sometime?”

But, finally, in their fifth meeting of the season, it didn’t finish 1-0. The Eddies came back.

“I knew it was always going to take a miracle for us to make the playoffs,” said FCE coach Colin Miller after the match. “I would rather focus on the team’s performance tonight. I am very pleased with the effort, and hopefully we can carry that momentum into Wednesday’s game.”

Unfortunately for the Eddies, Miller was right to be worried. Santa Claus did indeed show up in the second half.

“The only thing we can control, me as a coach and them as the players, is the better we perform, the better chance we have to be in another club next year or with the San Francisco Deltas,” said Dos Santos. “If San Francisco continues, good. If it doesn’t, and we do well, hopefully we’ll all have jobs in 2018.”

Last week’s loss in San Francisco was just an extreme example of a trend in Eddies’ games. Even when the Eddies triumph, they grow into games, they don’t dominate right from the start.

The pit that the Eddies dug for themselves was simply too deep from which to escape, and Dustin Corea’s headed effort could only serve as a consolation in a 2-1 loss.

But, after the Eddies dominated Indy and won 2-0 at Clarke Stadium, Sunday, they found out they wouldn’t be getting on the plane on Monday. The league announced that the game at Puerto Rico has been postponed. Forecasts are calling for Hurricane Maria to arrive at Puerto Rico Wednesday.

“We have been going to the meetings,” he said. “I believe in the Canadian Premier League. I think it will be great for Canada.”
