Whitecaps say hello to Martin Bonjour By Charles Posted on January 6, 2012 Comments Off on Whitecaps say hello to Martin Bonjour 0 630 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed Argentine defender Martin Bonjour. The club announced the signing on Friday. Bonjour had a cup of coffee with Polish side Lech Poznan, but made a name for himself in Uruguay. While Uruguay and Argentina’s national sides are bitter rivals, many Argentines have crossed the border to benefit their professional careers. From 2008 to 2011, Bonjour played 52 times for Rampla Juniors, which plays in the capital, Montevideo. He was then loaned out to a fellow first-division side, Liverpool de Montevideo, last season . “Martin is a powerful, aggressive central defender who is good in the air and comfortable on the ball,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. “He adds additional quality to our defensive side and brings plenty of South American top-flight experience.” Bonjour’s agents recently put out this highlight video of the player, a video resume, if you will.
