Ottawa Fury beats Lynx in conference semi: W-League title defence is still alive By Charles Posted on July 18, 2013 Comments Off on Ottawa Fury beats Lynx in conference semi: W-League title defence is still alive 0 775 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter The Ottawa Fury women are still alive to defend their W-League title. The Fury beat the Toronto Lady Lynx 5-1 in the Central Conference semifinal — the win ensured that the Ottawa side will go to Laval to play for the conference title. The Fury, who had its string of nine straight regular-season conference titles broken by Laval this season, is winless against the Cometes in 2013. As the second-place team, the Fury earned the right to host the Lynx in the one-game playoff — and the home side made most of playing at Algonquin College, outshooting the visitors 15-2. The stats certainly didn’t reflect the fact that the Lynx finished just three points behind the Fury in the regular season standings. Before the game was a half-hour old, the Fury held a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Lisa-Marie Woods and Tessa Gavilsky. Furtuna Velaj scored a goal against the run of play to make the score 2-1 just before halftime, but the Lynx succumbed to Ottawa’s second-half onslaught. Woods, Emily Gielnik and Lauren Hughes all added second-half tallies.
