Hamilton FC’s Richard whitewashes Ottawa, earns W-League Player of the Week By Charles Posted on May 30, 2012 Comments Off on Hamilton FC’s Richard whitewashes Ottawa, earns W-League Player of the Week 0 608 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Genevieve RichardHamilton FC’s Genevieve Richard did to the Ottawa Fury last weekend what no one else could do to that team all throughout the 2011 W-League season. Shut the Fury out, that is. For that, the Canadian goalkeeper was named the W-League’s player of the week on Wednesday. Richard, who attends the University of Wisconsin-Madison, got two shutouts for her Hamilton FC Rage in the past week. She also blanked Rochester, but all the buzz is over the Rage’s 2-0 victory over the Ottawa Fury. Richard made seven saves in the match against a team that was on a 17-game unbeaten run in W-League regular-season play. The Fury was not shut out last season. And, the Fury is a heavy favourite to go back to the W-League final, where it lost to Atlanta in 2011. Richard is a former member of the women’s team that played in the U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.
