The Montreal Impact brought in a slew of trialists over the last two weeks in an effort to remake its roster.

The first of those trialists, English midfielder Ian Westlake, has now put pen to paper — and could be available for the match Sunday between the two cellar-dwellers in the NASL, the Impact the Atlanta Silverbacks.

“He has played at a very good level in England,” said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis in a release. “He has the profile we were looking for. He has showed good things during training in the past 10 days and had a great attitude. We think that he can help our team going forward.

“Westlake is a dynamic left-footed midfielder who can play wide left or in the middle. He likes to get forward and has good quality with his left foot. We are also adding to the roster a player with a good age who has a certain experience. Now he needs to play to get his game fitness back and we hope that it won’t take too much time for him to adapt.”

With Westlake’s signing, the Impact have five of its seven international slots occupied.

Westlake is a former England U-21 player, and has more than 200 games worth of experience in the English second and third divisions. He’s best known for his time spent with Ipswich Town and Leeds United. He is 27.
