David Ferreira
The reigning MLS MVP is also the Player of the Week.

David Ferreira scored twice and provided the corner kick for Winnipeg native Ugo Ihemelu’s opening marker as FC Dallas thrashed the previously undefeated Colorado Rapids 3-0 on Friday night. He got the nod in voting from the North American Soccer Reporters.

For Dallas, it offered some slight measure of revenge for last November’s MLS Cup extra-time loss to the Rapids at Toronto’s BMO Field. And, it stopped a winless tailspin in meaningful games since FCD eliminated the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Western Conference Final.

How The 11 voted: Ferreira. Simply couldn’t ignore two goals in what was one of the marquee games of the week. As FCD coach Schellas Hyndman has said over and over, his club goes as Ferreira goes. And, if the little Colombian is back on track, look for FCD to start sorting itself out.

Seattle’s O’Brian White had to get consideration, just for the ridiculous nature of his goal. He somehow was able to get between two Chicago Fire defenders to get to a cross he had no business getting to, and got enough power from the top of the box to hit the back of the net. But, his assist wasn’t spectacular, as Steve Zakuani took the ball and drove down the left before turning towards goal and finishing what turned out to be the deciding goal in a 2-1 win.

Houston’s Danny Cruz also deserves a mention, as he simply ran the Vancouver Whitecaps ragged down the right side in the Dynamo’s 3-1 win Sunday
