Shaun Saiko... Two goals, assist, red card.
FC Edmonton’s Shaun Saiko has been named the NASL’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Saiko set up a goal and scored on a perfectly-placed penalty in a 3-0 win over the Puerto Rico Islanders Wednesday at Foote Field.

He then scored the opening goal of Saturday’s game, pouncing on a throw-in from Antonio Rago that squeezed through a couple of defenders, in a 1-1 road draw with NSC Minnesota.

Saiko was sent off later in the Minnesota match. He received his second yellow card of the match in the 85th minute after the referee ruled that Saiko had taken a dive in the penalty area in an attempt to draw a penalty.

Saiko has said he hopes to appeal the decision, but league sources informed The 11 that there isn’t a mechanism in place for that to happen. So, despite holding the Player of the Week honour, Saiko will miss Sunday’s game with the Montreal Impact.
