FC Edmonton is getting closer to signing another Dutch player.

The revelations came in an interview I did with FC Edmonton Director of Soccer Operations Joe Petrone for FCE TV that aired at halftime of Friday night’s broadcast of the home match against the Carolina RailHawks.

Petrone said two signings could be announced soon — for a Canadian defender and a Dutch midfielder; the Dutch player would have experience from the first-division Eredivisie.

Petrone said that the team intentionally remained short of the NASL roster limit of 30 so it could make additions as the season went on.

“Bringing in a midfielder is very important to the team, still,” said Petrone.

The Dutch midfield signing would be made later in the season. But he said a young central defender could be signed by as early as next week, a player who has already trialed with the club.
