Tampa Bay’s resident Canadian does Montreal Impact a favour By Steven Sandor Posted on September 7, 2011 Comments Off on Tampa Bay’s resident Canadian does Montreal Impact a favour 0 692 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Mozzi Gyorio A Canadian player did the Montreal Impact a massive favour. Mozzi Gyorio, the pride of Stratford, P.E.I., scored on a perfectly placed free kick to give FC Tampa Bay a 2-1 win over the NSC Minnesota Stars in NASL action Tuesday night. The win clinches a playoff spot for third-place FC Tampa Bay but, more importantly for the Impact, still leaves Montreal just four points behind Minnesota for the final playoff spot in the NASL. Montreal has four games left on its schedule, while Minnesota has just three. The Impact can narrow the gap to one point if it can become the first NASL team this season to win at Puerto Rico when it faces the Islanders on Wednesday. The Islanders will be playing a second-string squad because of World Cup qualifying demands of the Puerto Rican and Dominican Republic national sides. The win puts Tampa four points up on fourth-place FC Edmonton, which can clinch its playoff spot on Wednesday if it beats last-place Atlanta while Montreal draws or loses in Puerto Rico. Gyorio scored the winner in the 77th minute, on a perfectly placed free kick that went in off the post. For The 11’s feature on Gyorio, click here.
