One of the brightest prospects to come out of CIS has had his career derailed by injuries. And, on Tuesday, FC Edmonton announced that the club and midfielder Gagan Dosanjh had agreed to part ways.

In the 89th minute, off a free kick from Richie Ryan, Heinemann was able to get position on FCE defender Lance Laing. The ball looped off Heinemann’s head and into the back of the net, giving the Fury a 1-0 win.

This teams goes from “off” to “on” so often, it’s like the soccer version of a strobe light. It’s not as if this team goes from good to bad from game to game; you see the Jekyll-and-Hyde transformations at least a few times per game.

But, thanks to the brilliance of Ghanaian Kwadwo Poku, some very poor FCE defensive errors and some chances that the Eddies left begging, it was the Silverbacks who ensured that NASL opposition remains perfect at Clarke Stadium this season.

It wasn’t FC Edmonton’s prettiest match of the season, but it might have been the club’s best effort of the season.

It’s the team nobody wants. The team that’s the black sheep of its league. The team that’s the black sheep of its home and native land. And that’s how FCE should sell itself to Edmonton. That’s it’s a club that has to overcome its own history of cursed luck and circumstance; it could be a unique selling point.

“He (Mallan) had his hands behind his back and the ball’s gone off the label on his jersey. That’s never a penalty. The funny thing is, I thought Drew was having a good game up to that point. But there was also six minutes of time added on. As soon as the six minutes went up, you go the feeling that something was up.”

And one name jumps right out at the Canadian soccer supporter. Fraser Aird.

“It was absolutely fantastic,” said Miller. “They (Indy) deserve a great deal of credit. They have set a new standard for this league, just like the Seattle Sounders set a new standard for MLS when they came into the league.”
