With four goals over the last two games, Ottawa Fury midfielder Lisa-Marie Woods has been named the W-League’s Player of the Week.

Woods got both of the markers as the Fury beat Laval 2-1, then scored two more in 10-rout of London, as the Ottawa team continues to be the most dominant team in Canadian women’s club soccer.

Woods will likely be vital to Ottawa’s hopes for a W-League Championship. She’s been a regular with the Norwegian national side, but, because her country didn’t qualify for the Olympics, she won’t have to leave the Fury when the team hosts the W-League’s own version of the final four July 27-29.

Ottawa has still got to be seen as a favourite for the title. Yes, out west, the Seattle Sounders have signed a number of U.S. national team players, but they’ll have all departed for the Olympics by the time the biggest W-League games of the season roll around.

Ottawa, meanwhile, has a solid team — which features the likes of Woods and last year’s league MVP, Saskatchewan native Mallory Outerbridge. Because the Fury will be able to ride out the Olympic absences, the team could have the stars aligned for a championship finish, and erase the disappointment of 2011, when registered its only loss of the season in the championship final.
