Occean scores twice as SpVgg Greuther Furth remains atop Bundesliga 2 By Steven Sandor Posted on March 17, 2012 Comments Off on Occean scores twice as SpVgg Greuther Furth remains atop Bundesliga 2 0 579 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Olivier Occean It’s hard to remember a Canadian striker at any level on this kind of hot streak. Olivier Occean scored twice Saturday to help his Bundesliga 2. side, SpVgg Greuther Furth, overcome TSV 1860 Munich 4-1. The win allows Greuther Furth to preserve its lead in the second-division table, and bring the team closer to promotion. Occean now has 15 goals on the season. He scored 14 minutes into the match and then struck again just after halftime. And, Occean has been recovering from a “damaged foot” which has limited him in practice and kept him out of Canada’s Feb. 29 friendly against Armenia Christopher Nothe, who is Furth’s second-top scorer, is now five goals behind Occean. In midweek, Occean and Furth face its biggest challenge of the season, a German Cup tie against Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund. Occean scored a fantastic goal which saw him beat a couple of defenders in a Cup win over Bundesliga side, Hoffenheim. But even if Dortmund doesn’t start a full-strength lineup, it will be a major test for Furth — and, maybe, a taste of what is to come next season if Occean and co. earn promotion.
