FC Edmonton beats the Monsoon; announces friendly with WSA Winnipeg By Charles Posted on March 19, 2011 Comments Off on FC Edmonton beats the Monsoon; announces friendly with WSA Winnipeg 0 821 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter FC Edmonton wrapped up its Arizona preseason schedule with a 5-0 win over a bunch of trialists looking for work with the PASL expansion club, the Phoenix Monsoon. FCE had originally been scheduled to face the developmental side AZ Sahuaros, but plans for the match fell through. The Monsoon, which just announced it will be joining the Professional Arena Soccer League next season, stepped up to fill the gap, using the match as a first chance to look at players who could help it in its first indoor season next winter. Ironically, one of the top stars of the PASL, Dan Antoniuk, stole the show — for FC Edmonton, scoring twice. Antoniuk, who won the PASL title with the San Diego Sockers in each of the past two indoor seasons and has years of Div. 2 outdoor experience, signed with FCE last Tuesday. Alex Semenets also scored twice for FCE, while big defender John Jonke got up in the play to head home a goal from close range. FCE is not done playing its preseason schedule; the club travels to Manitoba next weekend to take on WSA Winnipeg, which debuts in the PDL in 2011.
