NZ fullback Knowles signs on with Impact By Charles Posted on July 26, 2011 Comments Off on NZ fullback Knowles signs on with Impact 0 632 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Cameron KnowlesCameron Knowles has done enough to prove to the Montreal Impact that he’s recovered from a broken leg suffered nearly two years ago. The Impact announced Tuesday that the club has signed the New Zealand fullback and ex-Portland Timber for the rest of the season. Knowles had been on trial for the past two weeks. (See our interview with Knowles HERE) Knowles had to undergo six operations after breaking his leg in an August 2009 game between the Timbers and the Impact at Stade Saputo. So, he’ll be resuming his career on the same field in which it was so rudely interrupted. Knowles was a nominee for the USL’s Defender of the Year award in 2007. “He’s been a top defender in our league and we needed help at this position,” said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis in a release. “He worked hard to get back on the pitch and he is now motivated in returning to the level he was a few seasons ago. He’s strong in the air and is an excellent communicator on the field.” Knowles is the second member of the Timber alumni to join the Impact in the past seven days. Forward Ryan Pore came to the team on loan over the weekend.
