It’s a move that surprised absolutely no one. The Montreal Impact announced Friday that standout goalkeeper Evan Bush has become the third player to sign with the club for its inaugural MLS season.

Bush won the Golden Glove award, which goes to the NASL keeper that posts the best numbers in the league, in 2011. The former Crystal Palace Baltimore keeper was signed to be Bill Gaudette’s back up. But, when Gaudette got hurt early in the season, Bush took over and was one of the major reasons that Montreal made a late charge for a playoff spot.

Bush allowed just 14 goals in 19 games, and established himself as the league’s best keeper. Not bad for a guy who was slated to be the back-up.

“Evan has shown in 2011 that he can be a top goalkeeper,” said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch in a release issued by the club. “With his performances during the last season, he has earned the right to join the Impact for its move to MLS. I am looking forward to challenging him at the next level.”

Bush was the Impact’s Defensive Player of the Year.,

The Impact already have Colombian defender Nelson Rivas and 2011 team MVP Hassoun Camara inked for next season.

On November 23, the Impact will select 10 more players through the MLS Expansion Draft.
