Melhado, Busque get chances to make Canadian women’s-team debuts

Canadian women’s national-team coach John Herdman has revealed the 18-player roster for June 19’s friendly against Germany in Paderborn.

Two players will get the chances to make their Canadian senior debuts; striker Melissa Busque, who is currently at Seattle University after transferring from the University of Connecticut, will get the chance to earn her first cap. In 2012, Busque had four goals and four assists for the SU Redhawks.

Defender Rachel Melhado, who goes to school at Louisville, is a defender who has featured in various Canadian women’s youth programs. She also gets the chance to make her Canada senior debut.

Not on the roster is American-born fullback Rachel Quon. Herdman said last week that he hoped Quon would have her paperwork in place by the time the Germany game kicked off. (CLICK HERE) The Chicago Red Stars and former U.S. U-20 player was named to Herdman’s roster for the June 2 Canada-U.S. game at BMO Field, but she didn’t have FIFA authorization to switch national programs by game time.

The roster for the Germany match features thirteen players who were in camp in Toronto for the Canada-U.S. friendly.
