With less than a week to go before Sunday’s home opener, it’s confirmed that the broadcast feed, called by Gareth Hampshire and, ahem, yours truly, will not only be carried on the league-mandate Ustream channel, but on the CBC Edmonton website. To see the games, click and bookmark this address: www.cbc.ca/edmonton/soccer For me, it’s exciting to get the chance to have the games broadcast to a national audience. Obviously, having the CBC brand gives what we do more legitimacy and makes FCE more of a media “player” in Canada’s crowded sports media space. As well, our broadcasts will also return to Edmonton sports radio TEAM 1260, with an added bonus. Not only will we have the call of all 14 FCE home games on the TEAM 1260, the station will also have us in the booth for the May 2 home leg of the Amway Canadian Championship tie against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Commonwealth Stadium. Our first broadcast of the season goes this Sunday as FC Edmonton opens its new Clarke Stadium home with a tilt against the defendinf NASL champion Minnesota Stars. Kickoff time is 2 p.m. MT/4 p.m. ET. With the Canadian MLS teams playing the majority of their games on Saturdays, and the Eddies playing most of their home schedule on Sunday afternoons, here’s to hoping that we can bring NASL to a captive Canadian audience who want their soccer fix to last through the weekend.
