Edwini-Bonsu and Whitecaps part ways By Charles Posted on April 22, 2011 Comments Off on Edwini-Bonsu and Whitecaps part ways 0 644 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Randy Edwini-BonsuSurely, there were some FC Edmonton fans who got more than a little excited when the Vancouver Whitecaps announced Thursday that they and striker Randy Edwini-Bonsu had reached a mutual agreement to part ways. Edwini-Bonsu, an Edmonton native, has been on the wish lists of FCE fans since the club started playing friendlies in 2010, long before it kicked a ball in NASL play. But the former Canadian U-20 standout hinted on his Twitter account that it might be time to go “back to Europe.” And he also pledged not to play with the Montreal Impact, the Whitecaps old hated Div. 2 rival. Edwini-Bonsu appeared 22 times for the Whitecaps in Div. 2 action last season. But only five of his 41 career appearances came as a starter. As the club moved to MLS, and Edwini-Bonsu didn’t move up the depth chart, it was time to go. “We are thankful for Randy’s contribution to the club and wish him the best of luck in his future playing career,” said Whitecaps’ President Bob Lenarduzzi in a release. Edwini-Bonsu scored twice against Mexico and got a goal against Costa Rica at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in 2009, where Canada failed to move on the U-20 World Cup.
