The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended Vancouver Whitecap Barry Robson for Saturday afternoon’s Cascadia Cup derby match in Seattle. But the timing is what’s interesting — the announcement came mere hours before the Sounders and Whitecaps are to do battle.

On Saturday morning, MLS announced that Robson was “suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for aggravated dissent.” Robson was very criticial of referee Matthew Foerster after Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to FC Dallas.

“It’s the most frustrating game I think I’ve ever played in,” Robson was quoted by The 11’s Martin MacMahon after the FCD match. “I found it really hard tonight. It’s just one foul, then it’s stop, then it’s start, then it’s stop. It’s so frustrating. The referee blows for every single body contact. What can you do? It’s something I’m not used to and the frustration does get to you.”

The question is the timing. With just hours to go before the match, Whitecaps’ coach Martin Rennie must shuffle his midfield.
