U-20 roster announcement: Dasovic out of the running for FCE coaching job?

Unless there is a last-second change in the Canadian Soccer Association’s plans, the news that U-20 coach Nick Dasovic will be in the United States and Costa Rica from Nov. 20-30 looks to have taken him off the board for the FC Edmonton coaching job.

FC Edmonton is expected to name a new head coach ahead of its combine, which runs Nov. 28-30. When director of soccer Joe Petrone met with academy players earlier in the autumn, he said that the new coach would need to be in place ahead of the combine. That’s so the new coach could be in place to assess the players who will audition at Commonwealth Stadium’s fitness centre.

Sources have told The 11 that Dasovic and former national teamer and ex-Whitecaps’ assistant coach Colin Miller were two of the leading candidates for the job. That sentiment was also echoed by Vancouver’s TEAM 1040 AM.

But the CSA’s release confirmed that Dasovic is booked to be in Costa Rica at the same time that the Eddies will be holding the combine. So, there’s only way that he could be in Costa Rica with the U-20s and then come back to take the FC Edmonton job; and that would be if FCE’s management had a major change of heart about the coach being in the city to attend the combine.

On Monday, the Canadian Soccer Association released the roster for its 11-day U-20 camp to be split between the U.S. and Costa Rica. Of note: Dasovic only picked one player affiliated with Toronto FC or TFC Academy.
