TFC acquires Cup-tied Jeremy Hall to bolster defence By Steven Sandor Posted on November 29, 2011 3 0 742 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Toronto FC made a deal Tuesday, acquiring defender Jeremy Hall from FC Dallas in exhange for the Reds’ second-round pick in the 2013 SuperDraft. Hall was a 2009 first-round draft pick of the New York Red Bulls, but has yet to establish himself as a regular MLS starter. In 2011, he started the season with the Portland Timbers and finished it with FC Dallas — and amassed 21 games played between the two clubs. Hall is quick and could provide some needed depth to the TFC backline, which has to be technical director and coach Aron Winter’s top priority in this offseason. Hall won’t be eligible to play in the remainder of TFC’s CONCACAF Champions League schedule; he played for FC Dallas in the 3-0 loss at home to the Reds that saw the Hoops crash out of the tournament. Jeremy Hall According to CCL rule 5.4 “Once having been properly inscribed on a Roster List for one Team, in any Phase, a player may not be inscribed on the Roster List for any other Team in the CCL in the same season of competition, in any Phase.” So Hall is out. Still, Winter was bullish on the young defender. “We’re happy to add Jeremy Hall to our club. He is a solid defender with excellent MLS experience,” said Winter in a release. “Defence is one of the areas that we want to address this offseason and acquiring Jeremy is a positive step forward for our club.” Hall was at the University of Maryland in 2006, which was Maurice Edu’s final season with the Terrapins. Of course, Edu went on to be the first-ever draft pick made by TFC and enjoyed a great career with the Reds until he was sold to Scottish side, Rangers. In October of 2006, Hall set up Edu for a game-winning goal against Virginia Tech.
