Saiko’s last-gasp goal gets him NASL weekly honour By Steven Sandor Posted on September 10, 2012 Comments Off on Saiko’s last-gasp goal gets him NASL weekly honour 0 644 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Shaun Saiko For the third time this season, Shaun Saiko has been named the NASL Offensive Player of the Week. It wasn’t because the FC Edmonton midfielder had a lot of goals and/or chances in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Minnesota; it was more about the timeliness of his one killer strike. Saiko got the nod for scoring the last-gasp equalizer against the Stars; that marker kept FCE mathematically alive in the playoff race, staying eight points behind Minnesota for the final playoff spot in NASL.Still, with three games left, FCE could go in to Wednesday’s home date with Carolina already knowing its fate; Minnesota plays Puerto Rico Tuesday, and just a single point from the Stars would eliminate the Eddies. While Saiko got the goal, he got a major assist from Bryan Arguez; the midfielder made a fantastic run and beat a couple of defenders before setting up Saiko for the equalizer.
