After winning 15 straight games this season, the Ottawa Fury chose the wrong time to come apart.

The Fury could not punctuate what could have been a dream season, as it was crushed 6-1 by the Atlanta Silverbacks in the W-League final Sunday in Seattle.

The Fury had won all 12 of its regular season games, outscored the opposition 10-0 in two Central Conference championship matches, and beat the host Sounders 3-2 in the semis.

But it all came unravelled for the Fury in the final.

Megan Tomlinson scored just nine minutes into the game for Atlanta, and Susannah Dennis made it 2-0 midway through the first half.

But, the Fury’s hopes of mounting a comeback were all but ruined when Courtney Wetzel got a straight red card for a professional foul in the area. Alexa Newfield converted the penalty and the Fury was down a player on the field, and three goals on the scoreboard.

Even though league MVP Mallory Outerbridge scored for the Fury — her 22nd goal in 16 games — it wasn’t nearly enough.

Tomlinson got her second of the game as the Silverbacks finished with three more goals before the final whistle. Tomlinson was named MVP of the tournament. Dennis also had two on the day.
