Magee wins MLS Player of the Month, The 11 gave Camilo the nod By Steven Sandor Posted on July 3, 2013 Comments Off on Magee wins MLS Player of the Month, The 11 gave Camilo the nod 0 629 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Camilo PHOTO: TONY LEWIS/CANADA SOCCER To The 11, the Player of the Month selection wasn’t close — Camilo deserved the nod. But our fellow members at the North American Soccer Reporters didn’t see it that way. On Wednesday, MLS named Mike Magee the Player of the Month for June. Magee got the most first-place votes from NASR members. No doubt that Magee had an impressive month. After being sent to Chicago from the Los Angeles Galaxy in the deal that saw Robbie Rogers’ rights go the other way, Magee has scored four times in four games, and the once-sad-sack Fire has gone undefeated over that span. But, the Whitecaps enjoyed their best-ever month in their MLS history; 12 out of a possible 15 points. And their Brazilian forward had a lot to do with it, scoring six times and adding two assists. No one in MLS came close to those scoring numbers in June, so that’s why Camilo got The 11‘s vote. Of course, with the vote taking place over the Canada Day long weekend, while it was business as usual in the United States, players on Canadian teams were placed at a slight disadvantage. And, to be fair, Camilo’s league-wide reputation for embellishing calls won’t help him. But, to be fair, after the Amway Canadian Championship semifinal, after he drew a controversial penalty to help spur a Whitecaps’ first-leg comeback against FC Edmonton, he’s been staying on his feet more and finishing plays.
