Jarju to miss Whitecaps’ match this weekend due to national-team commitment By Charles Posted on August 5, 2011 Comments Off on Jarju to miss Whitecaps’ match this weekend due to national-team commitment 0 704 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Mustapha Jarju The Vancouver Whitecaps will be without Designated Player Mustapha Jarju for Sunday’s home date against the Chicago Fire. Jarju has been called up to the Gambian national squad and will begin preparations for a friendly on Wednesday against the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This isn’t a surprise; Jarju was part of The Gambia’s regular starting XI during qualifying for this past season’s African Cup of Nations. Since its elimination at the qualifying stage, Gambia has lost three of its last four friendlies. Gambia faces Namibia in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on Sept. 2 and Burkina Faso on Oct. 12. The Namibia game takes place during a Whitecaps’ off week. But, the Burkina Faso match would see him miss an Oct.12 MLS encounter at home to D.C. United.
