FCE: Injuries felt through the backline, while Hamilton continues in camp By Steven Sandor Posted on March 5, 2013 2 0 730 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Paul Hamilton FC Edmonton played its second of two games against a group of CIS University All-Star Tuesday afternoon — but the main storylines of the games come from the players who hobbled off in the course of the two matches. Fullback Eddie Edward has a bad ankle and didn’t play Tuesday at Commonwealth Fieldhouse. Defender David Proctor has a calf strain that will keep him out five to 10 days. But more troubling is that Northern Irish defender Albert Watson spent all of Tuesday’s session on the training table, with his right knee wrapped and iced. He suffered a bad challenge on Monday and was not available, but no diagnosis has been made. And, in Tuesday’s game — after taking a vicious shot to the face, defender Wes Knight tried to go on, but had to leave the match about five minutes later, holding his head. “We still have just under five weeks to go from the start of the regular season, and we are hopeful everyone will be back,” said coach Colin Miller. Of course, injuries to defenders, especially if Watson would be a long-term absence, could change the dynamic surrounding 2012 Best XI defender Paul Hamilton. He played against the University All-Stars, but his status with the club remains the same. He is not a signed player for the 2013 season, but remains in camp. “We are still discussing things,” said Miller. “Paul and I have a good relationship, and we are trying to resolve the situation.” Hamilton said he did not want to comment on his situation with the club. While Miller did concede that the Eddies gave up a couple of silly goals on Tuesday, he was happy with the overall effort in the two matches on the short indoor pitch. “There were a lot of pleasing things over the last couple of days.” Ghanaian trialist Emmanuel Adjetey arrived from his medical during the second half of Tuesday’s match. The left back quickly got changed and got into the game. He just arrived in Edmonton from Vancouver, where he auditioned for the Whitecaps. “He comes highly recommended from the Whitecaps, so we have to take a look at him,” said Miller. “But, finances factor in the decisions, as well as needs we may have in other areas of the park.” RELATED: Will the impact of DeMerit injury be felt as far away as Edmonton?
