Martin Rennie went back to his Rolodex to find another prospect for the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Whitecaps coach has brought in another of his former Carolina RailHawks’ charges; this time it’s Japanese/American midfielder Jun Marques Davidson, who played in Div.2 under Rennie in 2010.

Rennie, who left the RailHawks at the end of the 2011 NASL season to take over the Whitecaps, has also brought in former Carolina midfielder Matt Watson and 2011 RailHawks keeper, Brad Knighton.

The Whitecaps also acquired the Discovery claim rights to Etienne Barbara, the 2011 NASL top scorer and MVP who rejected Montreal’s initial contract offers.

Davidson has played 133 J-League matches, and spent last season with Japanese Division-2 side, Tokushima Vortis.

“Jun is one of the most technically gifted players that I have coached,” said Rennie in a release issued by the Whitecaps. “He’s a defensive-minded midfielder with a strong pedigree of quality and experience after playing in the Japanese J.League for a number of years. His passing awareness and ability to break up play in the middle is tremendous. He will be a great addition to the group.”
