After a less-than-impressive showing at training camp, Ecuadorean centre back Geovanny Caicedo has been cut loose by Toronto FC.

After a dismal performance in the Walt Disney World Classic against third-division side Orlando City, where he was regularly caught out of position and committed the foul that led to a penalty-kick goal, Caicedo didn’t see much action for the rest of the preseason tournament. And, he told media in Spanish that he was finding it hard to adjust to the MLS style of play.

Geovanny Caicedo

“We are certainly disappointed with this outcome,” said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director Aron Winter in a release issued by the club. “During the preseason Geovanny expressed difficulty adjusting to the style of Major League Soccer. This reason combined with being away from his family, we were willing to accept the contract termination. We felt it was in the best interest of Geovanny. We wish him the best in his future endeavours.”

This means that, until Dicoy Williams or Adrian Cann returns to full health, that centre back Ty Harden will play with Chilean Miguel Aceval in the centre of the TFC defence.
