Wondolowski is MLS Player of the Month By Steven Sandor Posted on October 4, 2012 Comments Off on Wondolowski is MLS Player of the Month 0 637 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Chris Wondolowski PHOTO: LYNDSAY RADNEDGE Chris Wondolowski’s charge towards the MLS Most Valuable Player award continues. The San Jose Earthquakes striker was named the league’s Player of the Month for September. Wondolowski leads MLS with 22 goals this season. He set an MLS record with 11 game-winning goals in a season. In September, he scored twice in a 2-2 tie with the Portland Timbers and scored winners against the Seattle Sounders and Chivas USA. Wondolowski’s goals lead to points for the Quakes — and he’s the major reason why the club is closing in on the Supporters’ Shield. Wondolowski’s big goals made him the choice of the North American Soccer Reporters. And, it’s the third time this season he’s been named Player of the Month. Why even bother with the MVP vote? Just give it to him. How The 11 voted: We gave Wondo our second-place ballot. Our first-place vote went to New York’s Thierry Henry, who won his fourth and fifth Player of the Week awards in September. In one heroic week, he scored twice and added an assist against Columbus — including a ridiculous goal directly off a corner kick. And, last week, Henry scored one and added three assists in an all-too-easy rout of TFC.
