TFC cut three who didn’t get into preseason opener By Steven Sandor Posted on February 11, 2013 1 0 701 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Need any more proof of how much of a crapshoot the Supplemental Draft really is? Two of the three early cuts from Toronto FC’s camp were players taken in the the 2013 draft-after-the-real-draft. TFC has cut loose University of Mexico product Nik Robson, Creighton’s Jose Gomez and trialist Joevin Jones, who had played at Trinidad and Tobago’s W Connection, Nik Robson Both Gomez and Robson were Supplemental Draft picks. And neither got into TFC’s first preseason game of the season, a 1-0 loss Saturday to Columbus at the Walt Disney World Classic. Jones also didn’t feature in the game against the Crew. Really, this is a classic case of a coaching staff deciding that they’d seen enough — and didn’t actually need to see the players in a live game situation. With the regular season starting at the beginning of March, TFC needs to use as many of the preseason minutes as possible to get the players who will likely play in 2013 ready for the season. Vancouver had already played three preseason games before the Reds kicked a ball i anger.
