Garrett’s toe injury likely to shelve him for remainder of FCE’s spring season

With FC Edmonton eliminated from contention for the NASL spring season title, don’t expect to see midfielder Robert Garrett in the lineup for a while.

Garrett was helped from the Clarke Stadium field late in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with the Carolina RailHawks. The Northern Irish international left the field on crutches.

Preliminary reports are that Garrett has a dislocated toe, an injury that would likely keep him off the field for four to six weeks. But, the Eddies have just two games left in the spring season, then will take July off as the NASL goes on hiatus. The fall season begins August 3. That means Garrett would likely two games but not miss time in the fall, when the games will have meaning once again.

Really, the final two games of the spring season give coach Colin Miller the flexibility to experiment with his lineup as the team continues to gel under his leadership. The team has the best defensive mark in NASL, but are out of contention because of its struggles to score goals.

NASL’s unique set-up sees the winner of the spring season (if the season ended today, Atlanta would take the title) face the winner of the fall season in November’s Soccer Bowl.

Hopefully Mortotsi gets his second start and Gigs for Cox. Like to see Nonni, Massi play as well.

Lets hope they give Boakai a full 90′ in place of Garrett. It would be really good for Canada if he could earn a place in the starting 11 for next year, I would say for the fall season but I believe it’s not a very achievable goal at this point.

Too bad, I like him as a player. Very useful duster on the midfield and besides, every squad needs at least one ginger in the line-up. Miller will probably play Nurse instead of him but I would love to see Boakai or Mortotsi get a shot.

If there’s any disappoinment about one of the Belfast lads, it must be about Fordyce. He started promising, but seems unable the create any kind of danger. I do hope he’ll improve and show me wrong, ’cause honestly right now , I can’t see why they brought him over from the UK. Watson is great, even though his build-up from the back is non-existing.
