FC Edmonton close to new apparel deal, will have new kits in 2012 By Steven Sandor Posted on November 1, 2011 Comments Off on FC Edmonton close to new apparel deal, will have new kits in 2012 0 868 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter FC Edmonton will have new kits — and a new apparel provider — for the 2012 season. The club confirmed Tuesday that it will not be wearing Umbro kits next season, as it did during its inaugural NASL campaign. FCE Director of Operations James Rosnau confirmed that the team is close to a multi-year deal with a “global sports leader” for the team’s jerseys and apparel. While Rosnau would not confirm which apparel company will have its logo on FC Edmonton’s kits in 2012, there aren’t many from which to choose. Umbro is owned by Nike, so we can rule that conglomerate out of the picture. Basically, that leaves Adidas on the table — and it would be a deal that would make sense. Adidas already provides all the jerseys for MLS, and the ability to cross-promote FCE’s gear along with the three Canadian MLS sides makes sense. It would help get the FCE brand outside of the city and onto a national level. Rosnau said the new deal, which is expected to be announced in the next month or so, gives the club more artistic license with its jerseys. “We are designing our new kit,” he said. In the previous deal with Umbro, FCE used an already existing jersey pattern and put its logo on it. FCE will be able to come up with its own custom designs for 2012, and plans are in the works for a third jersey, as well. In 2011, FCE used a retro NASL Edmonton Drillers kit as its third — and, unlike the team’s home and away kits, it wasn’t designed by Umbro. All of the kits from season one will now become collector’s items.
