“Corey’s been here for three days, I’ve been here for a week, and for us to click like that, it’s great,” said Adur, a former Maccabi Haifa youth player who has also had pro stints in Singapore and Thailand. “I think the two of us are going to become a special story in this league as the season progresses.”

“I talked to Carlyle as soon as I found out, and he only had good things to say about the team,” said Hertzog, who arrived in Edmonton Wednesday and had his medical Thursday. “He said it’s a good bunch of guys. Now I’m looking forward to helping this team get some wins.”

Now, Hertzog will join the Eddies on the field. The Whitecaps and FCE confirmed Thursday that the American striker will come to the Alberta capital on loan, and should be available for Sunday’s NASL fall season home opener against the San Antonio Scorpions.

The Eddies and the Alberta Soccer Association announced a new Regional Performance Centre will be launched, and that centre will link to the Excel Program, which helps identify talent for the Canadian national program. Sergio Teixeira will be the FC Edmonton ladies’ coach, and 20 players from age 14-16 have been recruited to take part in the program.

The Thunder Bay Chill got the opening goal in the second, had its keeper sent off in the third, and gave up the game-tying penalty-kick goal in the seventh. With only 10 men on the pitch, the life was sucked out of the Canadian side’s title challenge, and the Chill fell to the host Austin Aztex 3-1 on Sunday night.

“It was a catalogue of disasters, it was a shocking trip,” FCE coach Colin Miller said of the trip “Finally, the rain delay set it right up for us to have the kind of first half we did. But I don’t want to make excuses, we set high standards at this club.

The Thunder Bay Chill got goals from a Spaniard and a Brazilian to win the, ahem, all-Canadian PDL semifinal over the Victoria Highlanders.

The Alberta Soccer Association and the club have made plans for an August 7 press conference at Commonwealth Stadium where the new FC Edmonton women’s program will be unveiled.

“A lot of CIS coaches will be delighted knowing that he won’t be playing for UBC in the fall,” Miller said. “I didn’t bring him in here to make up the numbers. Hes got a great football brain. He can find tiny pockets of space in the field.”

Former University of British Columbia standout Gagandeep Dosanjh has committed to FC Edmonton, and will join the club this week.
