NASL Commissioner David Downs made himself available to be interviewed by The 11 on Tuesday. The commissioner, now in his second year with the league, talked about the Ottawa situation, Edmonton's new stadium plans and further expansion into Canada, the U.S. and the Caribbean.

Former FC Edmonton defender and Ottawa product Adrian LeRoy has found a new home.

The Puerto Rico Islanders have confirmed that they have inked Ottawa native Edson Edward to a deal. The Ottawa Fury, Edward’s old PDL club, also announced that its alumnus is off to the NASL.

On Friday, the NASL expansion side announced that it had signed ex-Whitecaps Blake Wagner and Wes Knight. Wagner and Knight will join two other former Whitecaps, Kevin Harmse and Greg Janicki — who were the first two signings the Scorpions ever made.

Last week, NASL confirmed that 14 of its 2011 alumni were on MLS rosters heading into opening weekend. Now, Emory is added to that list.

The RailHawks won the game on penalties after the Whitecaps’ Davide Chiumiento scored a last-gasp equalizer. It was 2-2 after 90 minutes, but the RailHawks were perfect in the penalty shootout, while the Whitecaps were just two for four.

The decision, made by the USSF in Miami this morning, ensures stability for FC Edmonton, Puerto Rico Islanders and the six U.S. mainland teams in the circuit, as well as the coming expansion franchise from Ottawa.

Six Canada-eligible players will head to Fort Lauderdale this weekend, trying to land jobs with FC Edmonton or one of the other seven NASL teams.

The San Antonio, Tex, native, who spent the 2011 season with the Reds and was released at the end of the campaign, was signed by the NASL expansion side San Antonio Scorpions on Thursday.

University of Saskatchewan midfielder Josh Northey and Oakland University defender (and Toronto Lynx alumnus) Julian Konner McNamara reportedly made the strongest showings of the 12 Canadians who participated in the combine.
