Adrian Cann
Adrian Cann has been added to the Canadian roster for the Feb. 9 friendly against Greece. Toronto FC is training in Turkey, which neighbours Greece, so bringing reigning team MVP Cann over was the easiest solution available to coach Stephen Hart, who learned yesterday that FC Koln central defender Kevin McKenna would not be available due to a back problem. Cann missed out on opportunities last season with the national team because of MLS conflicts with international dates. Hart admitted before Canada’s Sept. 4 friendly that he hated to savage Toronto FC’s lineup for the national team, as the Reds played FC Dallas that weekend. Hart had already decided to call up Dwayne De Rosario, Julian de Guzman and Nana Attakora — so Cann, as a courtesy to the Reds — was out of the equation. Cann is the fourth MLS player to be named to the Canadian roster for the Greece friendly. Originally, Hart had hoped to avoid using out-of-season MLS players in a game against a Greek side where all of its players are in midseason form. But, because of injuries and a the demands of a postponement-filled European calendar,  Hart needed to draft in MLS reinforcements Dejan Jakovic, Dwayne De Rosario and Will Johnson.
