Canadian striker Cox named NASL Player of the Week By Steven Sandor Posted on May 13, 2013 1 0 788 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Michael Cox on the right side of the wall. FC Edmonton coach Colin Miller wasn’t happy with his team’s performance. After Sunday’s 3-0 win at home over the Atlanta Silverbacks, he gathered the team on the pitch and let them know just how unhappy he was with the team’s effort against opposition that did its best to self-destruct. But Miller’s harsh critique of his club wasn’t reflected in the NASL Player of the Week vote, as Canadian striker Michael Cox got the nod for his two-goal effort for the Eddies. Cox scored twice and was key in drawing the infraction that sent the Silverbacks down to 10 men. The highlights of the match: Cox ran onto a long ball and, after Silverbacks defender Mike Randolph had given up the chase, Atlanta keeper Joe Nasco came out of his box and used his hand to nudge the ball out of the striker’s path. Red card. • Cox scored his first into an open goal after back-up keeper Eric Ati misjudged a bouncing ball and let it bound over his head. • The Calgary native’s second goal was a beauty; he took a cross from Robert Garrett of his chest, and looped an overhead kick over the head of Ati and into the goal.
