Canadian Porter scores second career MLS goal By Steven Sandor Posted on September 15, 2013 Comments Off on Canadian Porter scores second career MLS goal 0 615 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Kyle Porter Kyle PorterCanadian forward Kyle Porter scored his second career MLS goal, breaking a nearly three-month scoring drought. The former FC Edmonton forward’s glancing header of a ball hit into the box by teammate Perry Kitchen gave D.C. United a 2-2 draw at home Saturday to the Los Angeles Galaxy. Porter’s last (and, before this game, only) MLS goal came on May 19 against Sporting Kansas City. For D.C. United, the draw means little in terms of the standings. This is a team entrenched at the bottom of the MLS table. But, the last-place standing means that Porter is one of many players who are playing for jobs next season. So, Porter, who came on as a second-half sub, needs to make the most of his opportunities. While Porter’s goal — and any more he can score before the end of the season — won’t help lead DCU to anything but consolation points, on a personal level, they are huge. Porter, like many of his young teammates, needs to put the shine on the final performances of the season for a club that is likely going to clean house over the winter. And, for a player who has made it to the fringes of the national-team program in 2013, goals are strong messages to send to new Canada men’s coach Benito Floro.
