Canadian forward Michael Nonni arrives in Edmonton as a trialist By Steven Sandor Posted on July 30, 2012 Comments Off on Canadian forward Michael Nonni arrives in Edmonton as a trialist 0 660 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Canadian midfielder/forward Michael Nonni has come to FC Edmonton as a trialist. Because the Vancouver native is a citizen of this country and was a free agent, he can come in as a trialist despite the transfer window’s closure. Michael Nonni Nonni, who has made one appearance for Canada’s U-23 team, was a former conference all-star at the University of California-Santa Barbara, where he teamed with Toronto FC rookie Luis Silva. Nonni graduated last season and then went to Germany, where he spent part of the 2011-12 European season with SV Wilhelmshaven, which is in the lower divisions. Nonni can play as a striker or on the right side of midfield. Along with Brazilian striker Julio Cesar da Silva, who has also arrived on trial, Nonni will be looked to as a player who can help boost FCE, which sits in seventh in the NASL standings because of its anemic offensive output. So far this season, FCE has scored just 15 goals in 18 matches, and is the only team in the NASL averaging less than a goal per game.
