Canadian U-17 coach Sean Fleming has named the 24 teens who will be invited to the team’s pre-World Cup camp in Sunrise, Fla. The camp will run from May 19-29. After the camp, Fleming will name a 21-man roster who will go to Mexico for the U-17 World Cup, which goes from June 18 to July 10. Canada will find out who and when it will play when the draw happens later Tuesday in Mexico City. “This will be the first time we will have all our players since the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship,” said Fleming in a release. “It will be a great opportunity to get the final preparations in for the FIFA U-17 World Cup as well for the players to impress to claim a final roster spot.” Nine TFC Academy players are on the 24-man short list. Goalkeeper Chad Bush, who wasn’t on the roster when Canada qualified for the World Cup at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Jamaica, joins incumbent keepers Maxime Crepeau and TFC Academy teammate Quillan Roberts on the list. Barring injury, Crepeau will keep the starting job. Fleming hasn’t made any major changes to what we see as the starting lineup — TFC Academy striker Kevin Aleman, Edmonton forward Sadi Jalali and Sigma FC Academy’s Chris Nanco will be key to the attack, while reigning U-17 player of the year Bryce Alderson will anchor the midfield — he did make some other minor alterations. Montreal Impact Academy defender Ismail Benomar is out due to injury. TFC Academy defender Tyler Pasher, who wasn’t with the side during the CONCACAF championship, is in. Midfielders Samuel Leblanc (FC Metz) and Winnipeg native Dylan Carreiro aren’t on the list. Montreal Impact Academy midfielder Gregory Turfan didn’t get an invite. Defender Dominic Samuel is also out.
