Barrett bags goal for the Galaxy By Steven Sandor Posted on February 22, 2011 Comments Off on Barrett bags goal for the Galaxy 0 737 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter With Vancouver meeting the Los Angeles Galaxy for the second straight day — and the Whitecaps playing their fourth training match in five days — it gets really difficult to read into the results. The Galaxy played most of its projectd starting XI in Monday’s win over the Whitecaps — with the likes of Juan Pablo Angel and Landon Donovan logging major minutes — so Tuesday’s affair was far more experimental in nature. But there was one interesting tidbit from the game; Chad Barrett scored the second goal of the match as the Galaxy won 2-0, completing a two-game sweep of the Whitecaps in Arizona. Chad Barrett Barrett, dealt from Toronto FC to the Galaxy in the off-season so the Reds could get some cap space, took a pass from Adam Cristman and fired a shot past Whitecaps goalkeeping prospect Brian Sylvestre. Cristman, who has been in MLS since 2007, is a journeyman striker. The Galaxy is his fourth MLS club. Barrett will need to fight for a place in Bruce Arena’s Galaxy lineup, as Angel is a striker who thrives when he is the main option up front. Note that when he was the only attacking option on a bad New York team, he still managed to score in bunches. But, after Thierry Henry arrived in New York, he wasn’t as comfortable in a supporting role. Of course, uncertainty over his expiring DP contract was also hanging over his head.
