A DeKalb County, Ga., judge ruled Wednesday that former Montreal Impact and FC Edmonton midfielder Bryan Arguez could be released from custody on a US$75,000 bond.

Arguez was arrested on Aug. 11 in Atlanta and charged with rape. He was a member of the Carolina RailHawks at the time, and the team was on a road trip to Atlanta. Arguez allegedly assaulted a woman in her sleep at a party. He was released by the RailHawks shortly after his arrest, and was held in custody for weeks pending his bond hearing.

Arguez was signed out of the NASL by the Montreal Impact in 2012. The former Fort Lauderdale Striker and ex U.S. U-20 national team member, though, couldn’t find his way into the lineup and he was loaned out to FC Edmonton. With the Eddies, Arguez became a regular starter, and re-established his position as one of the best holding midfielders in the league.

The Eddies had made it clear that they wanted to sign Arguez in 2013, but when Montreal relinquished its rights to the player, he chose instead to take a more lucrative offer with Minnesota United FC, which also splashed cash on the league’s 2011 and 2012 MVPs, Etienne Barbara and Campos.

After a disappointing spring season campaign, Minnesota dealt Barbara to Tampa Bay and Arguez to Carolina.

When Arguez arrived in Edmonton from Montreal last year, he had this to say: ““It was disappointing. It didn’t work out the way I was told it was going to work out. I just never got the chance. There was a time when the team had lost three games in a row, and I thought I was going to get a chance, and it didn’t happen. And, when we played D.C. United on the road, we started almost an entirely different lineup and they still didn’t give me a chance.. But I can’t dwell on the past, I have to make the most out of my situation here.” (FOR MORE ON THAT STORY, CLICK HERE)
