According to a release on the Belfast club Linfield FC’s website released this weekend: “Former Linfield players Albert Watson and Daryl Fordyce have today signed for FC Edmonton in Canada following a two-week trial.” FCE has confirmed that Watson and Fordyce are part of 17 signings that will be officially announced Monday. Watson, a former captain of Northern Ireland’s U21 side, and Fordyce, who has also represented Northern Ireland at the youth level, told Linfield in January that they were leaving the club in order to pursue new opportunities in Canada. After arriving in Canada, the pair earned a trial with the Eddies. Daryl Fordyce Fordyce has scored in Champions League qualifiers for Linfield — in fact, he scored against Belarusian side BATE Borisov in his Linfield debut. Watson offers a commanding presence in the box and, as a regular wearer of the captain’s armband, brings leadership to a back line that struggled on set pieces last year.
