Maurice Edu will return to BMO Field
U.S. national men’s team coach (and former Toronto FC consultant) Jurgen Klinsmann has named the 23-man roster that will travel to BMO Field on June 3.

The U.S. plays Canada in two weeks, as the Canadian Soccer Association celebrates its 100th anniversary.

The warmest BMO welcome will no doubt go to Maurice Edu, who was the club’s first-ever draft pick and won MLS rookie of the year on 2007. He was eventually sold to now-bankrupt Rangers. But BMO Field was the first professional stadium that he called home, so the game should be more special for him than any of the other 22 men in the U.S. squad.

For Canadian fans familiar with the American set-up, there weren’t many shocks in the roster of 23. The only American player who makes his debut is Club Tijuana midfielder Joe Corona. Of the 23, 14 have represented the U.S. in previous World Cups. Of course, a player named “Corona” playing for Tijuana sets itself up for all sorts of puns.

The Americans play five matches over the next month, including two World Cup qualifiers. So, don’t be surprised if we see a lot of squad rotation for the Canada match.

“We have said from the beginning that these games are all about results, and we have chosen the 23 players who are in the best form right now and ready to get the job done,” said Klinsmann in a release issued by the United States Soccer Federation. “These guys have put in a tremendous amount of hard work in the last 10 days, and they are hungry to get started with the matches. We want to thank the players who have gone back to their clubs for all of their effort here. They are knocking on the door and will be ready to go if needed.”
