TFC waives midfielder Elbekay Bouchiba By Steven Sandor Posted on February 28, 2012 Comments Off on TFC waives midfielder Elbekay Bouchiba 0 560 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Add Elbekay Bouchiba’s name to a list of Toronto FC players that even the most die-hard fans would have problems recalling. Olivier Tebily, Diaz Kambere, Abbe Ibrahim… Unlike the other three players mentioned, though, Bouchiba never got into a competitive game. On Tuesday, Toronto FC waived the Dutch-Moroccan midfielder. Last year, after signing with the club during the preseason, Bouchiba suffered a season-ending ACL injury, and was still on the roster up to Tuesday morning. At 33 years old, it’s hard to justify keeping a roster spot open for a veteran recovering from a serious knee problem. Because of the roster and salary-cap limitations of MLS, depth spots on the roster have to go to young, developing players. If a team is spending any money on veterans, it has to be because the veterans get significant playing time. And, healthy or not, Bouchiba wasn’t going to be anything but at the bottom of the Reds’ depth chart this season.
