TFC trumps Impact in quest to sign defender Eddy Viator By Steven Sandor Posted on July 20, 2011 Comments Off on TFC trumps Impact in quest to sign defender Eddy Viator 0 776 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Eddy Viator, who had been previously on trial with the NASL’s Montreal Impact, has signed with Toronto FC. The defender, who played in Guadeloupe’s 1-0 loss to Canada at the recently completed Gold Cup, is eligible to appear in Wednesday night’s matchup against FC Dallas. “We were impressed with what Eddy showed us in training and we want to continue adding depth in this position,” said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director Aron Winter in a release issued by the club. “We watched him during the Gold Cup earlier this summer and like his versatility. He can play both right back and centre back.” Viator, who turned 29 in June, has played lower-division French football with LB Châteauroux, Grenade and Amiens SC. Before his audition with Toronto FC, Viator had been on trial with the Impact, as the club — sitting in second-last in the NASL standings — looks to remake itself. Of course, Viator, being a French-speaking player, would have been a boon for the Montreal market.
