Montreal’s fans are different than soccer supporters you’d find in the rest of Canada. They feel the pull of their unique Quebecois heritage; if a Canadian league ever launched, they might constitute the most difficult market in which to succeed. So, we asked them... What’s more important: The Impact developing Canadian soccer players, or the Impact doing what needs to be done in order to win games in a predominantly American league?

So, on a Tuesday night packed with action for the Canadian soccer supporter — what was the most important moment? Was it a last-gasp goal from Cameron Porter, or a second-half marker from Kosovar Sadiki?

Cautious optimism. That’s the best way to describe Montreal’s reaction to Canada’s 2026 World Cup bid. No letters of support have been written. And, in a city and province that still feel the costs of hosting the 1976 Summer Olympics, big events like a World Cup can feel like déjà vu all over again...

On Monday, Les Quebecois announced the full team that will be going to the Tournoi International des Peuples des Cultures et des Tribus. That tournament, which begins June 23 in Marseille, France, brings together teams from French-speaking regions that aren't recognized as countries.

“If we have decent results and we can build on that and we have another tournament next year, we’ll have this precedent to base future teams on. We really hope this is not a one-shot deal. We really hope that this can happen again,” Leduc said.

That directive was made in response to Quebec’s ongoing refusal to allow the headwear for official games in the province. It is the only association in Canada to have such a ban in place. Last Sunday, the QSF reaffirmed its support for the ban, defying the CSA directive.

Former FC Edmonton and Montreal Impact players are being hinted as the key parts of a Quebec “national” team that will compete in a Marseille tournament at the end of June.

It promotes itself as the “Bank of Soccer in Canada.” And so, BMO has added one more notch on that belt in teaming up with the Major League Soccer-bound Montreal Impact. The financial institution and soccer franchise came together at Saputo Stadium on Tuesday to announce a five-year partnership in which BMO becomes the organization’s premier sponsor when it makes its MLS debut in 2012.

The Montreal Impact announced its plan to transform Stade Saputo into an MLS-ready facility. Owner Joey Saputo lifted the curtain on a plan to increase the stadium’s capacity from 13,034 to 20,431. The plan calls for 3,500 seats in a new west grandstand and 1,250 additional seats in the southeast and southwest corners. Another 1,000 seats will be installed in the east grandstand.
