TFC scored its first victory of any sort at BMO Field this season, beating the Impact by a 2-0 score to send the Reds into the Voyageurs Cup final and handing Montreal another disappointing result in the national tournament.

A match against SKC? Sure loss, right? Wrong. The Impact won its first ever road game, 2-0 over the hosts and, frankly, put together the most impressive 90 minutes in the club’s short MLS history.

A nearly full house of 58,912 fans, the most to ever turn out for a pro soccer game in Montreal, showed up for the Impact’s MLS home opener at Olympic Stadium, with very few of them returning home disappointed after seeing their team put on a solid performance against the visiting Chicago Fire.

The Montreal Impact held its pre-season open house on Thursday evening in front of about 2,000 of its most devoted fans at a poster-festooned Olympic Stadium, many drawn by the news that 1,000 tickets for Saturday’s opener were to be given away to the first folks turning up.

After Saturday's 2-0 MLS-opening loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps at B.C. Place, Montreal coach Jesse Marsch declared that one game does not a season make.

But, a cynic would question the “all-Canadian” nature of the Impact-Whitecaps match. After all, between the starting lineups of both teams, there was only one player who would be eligible for a Canada call-up; Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier.

The Vancouver Whitecaps aren’t quite sure what 11 players the Montreal Impact will have on the field when the two teams kick off the MLS season Saturday at B.C. Place. But, Whitecaps’ veteran centre back Jay DeMerit has a pretty good idea of how the visiting team will line up.

We tallied up our votes, and came up with our list of how the teams will finish, who will win MLS Cup and who will be the league’s MVP. No need to play the season, now. We have it all figured out.

Bernier scored a great free-kick goal in the 56th minute, just six minutes after Dynamo second-year player Will Bruin had opened the scoring with a headed effort.

It’s hard to read too much into a preseason game, but Friday night’s Walt Disney World classic opener between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact presented a couple of interesting storylines.
