Marco Schallibaum will not be coaching the Montreal Impact Wednesday night as it faces Toronto FC at BMO Field.

"The idea is to move up with an eye to picking Bekker but it won’t be easy,” De Santis concluded.

“I would like to thank Joey and Nick. Who have shown confidence in me,” Schallibaum began. “When you receive something you have to give something back so it is up to me to now do everything needed to ensure the team has success."

“It’s disappointing to not have a contract but that’s the way the sport is and I still have to look on the positive side, “ Gatti said. “I do have a tryout with the team that I had my first tryout with back in the day.”

After being cut by the Montreal Impact in 2011, French defender Kevin Hatchi had the chance to go back to Europe to resume his professional career. But, instead of heading home, he chose to stick it out and look for work in the country that he has grown to love.

“For example, Etienne Barbara,” said De Santis, referring to the NASL’s leading scorer to date this season and a man who has expressed interest in playing in MLS. “We can negotiate with him and have until March to confirm a contract with him or any other players in those leagues.”

The Montreal Impact brought in a slew of trialists over the last two weeks in an effort to remake its roster. The first of those trialists, English midfielder Ian Westlake, has now put pen to paper — and could be available for the match Sunday between the two cellar-dwellers in the NASL, the Impact the Atlanta Silverbacks.

A change is as good as a rest. For the Montreal Impact, that old adage certainly held true as they provided fans with their best effort in some time, coming away from their match with the Puerto Rico Islanders with a scoreless tie in front of a crowd announced at just over 10,000 at Stade Saputo.

When Eduardo Sebrango announced his retirement from soccer earlier in April, he was stuck on 98 career Div. 2 goals. He wasn’t going to make 100. Stop the presses. Sebrango will be going for goals 99 and 100 — and, for the offensively challenged Montreal Impact, they can’t come soon enough. The 38-year-old’s retirement lasted just a little bit more than two months.

Marc Dos Santos quit before he was pushed. The Montreal Impact announced Tuesday that Dos Santos has resigned his post as the team’s head coach. Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at FC Edmonton marked left the Impact with a shocking 2-7-3 record, good for second-last in the NASL.
