“What a performance by these guys tonight,” said FC Edmonton coach Colin Miller. “It speaks to the culture that we’re trying to build here. We gave up some very poor goals to the best team in NASL on Sunday. But we came into this game not looking to draw; we thought we could win the game. We knew that, playing against the best team in the MLS Western Conference, that we couldn’t have one single player out there fail tonight. And we didn’t have any failures.”

“That’s been the frustrating part of this game and, in some ways, our season. I think we’ve become much more expansive, much more entertaining, scored a lot more goals… but we’ve not tightened up well enough at the back.”

If you only looked at the season-long list of MLS Players of the Week, you’d assume that the Vancouver Whitecaps were comfortably ahead of the pack in the Western Conference.

“I always have this feeling, every game, that I'm going to make an impact,” Manneh told reporters following the game. “No matter how much time I play — if I start or come off the bench — I'm always looking to make an impact on the game.”

“If I was sitting in the stands I think I would be going home a very happy fan, but unfortunately for us their 'keeper makes two world-class saves,” captain Jay DeMerit told reporters following the match. “They should be making a statue of Donovan Ricketts in Portland right now, because he's definitely kept them in it, which is disappointing for us, because that was a game where we should have taken three points.”

Latching onto a loose ball after Andy O'Brien and Johnny Leveron both moved toward Robbie Keane in the third minute, the U.S. international powered a laser of a shot into the top left side of David Ousted's goal in what would turn out to be game winner.

“The assistant referee called the referee over to determine if #29 Zardes had touched the ball with his head before #33 [Villarreal] kicked the ball into the goal,” Penso wrote. “The referee determined that Zardes had not touched the ball, thus not making [Villarreal] offside. The goal was awarded.”

“For me that is not important,” Camilo said of the race for the Golden Boot. “More important for me is that our club gets up on the table. We are third place [in the Western Conference]."

For the second time this year, a Vancouver Whitecaps player has been suspended for an offence that didn't receive a red card during the game in question, but was later deemed to be red-card worthy by the MLS Disciplinary Committee.

“It always feels good to score, especially with my first professional goal,” Manneh told reporters after the match. “It was a tough situation. We were down two goals and we needed a goal.”
