Wheeldon said Minatel will fit the Cavalry style as he can both finish chances and create goals. Minatel has scored for the Fury in the Canadian Championship, so he has experience in that tournament, as well. The fact that the goal came against FC Edmonton might make the Cavalry fans smile, well, just a little bit.

It just wasn’t that the Whitecaps gave up five. Jozy Altidore was rampant, scoring a hat trick. The Reds were as sharp offensively as they've been all season. But, wow, were the Whitecaps bad. Awful. Insipid.

In the first half of Wednesday’s second leg at BC Place, the Impact fouled up a golden chance to get a needed road goal that may have effectively ended the tie.

But, in Oakville, Ont. on Wednesday, Abzi wrote a bit of history as an outdoor player. His late first-half goal gave the PLSQ’s AS Blainville a 1-0 win over League1 Ontario’s Oakville Blue Devils in the second leg of their Canadian Championship qualifying series.

The hottest place in Canadian Soccer is Laval, Quebec. There’s smoke on the field, fire in the stands, and a late game-winner!
